Kelsey Plum and Spike Lee exchanged back and forth jabs in a heated war of words during the Las Vegas Aces’ 87–77 loss to the New York Liberty in Game 1 of their WNBA semifinals series.
With just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter, Plum walked towards the sideline to give Lee a piece of her mind. The lively New York sports fan was vocal throughout the contest, routinely expressing his support for the Liberty from his courtside seat.
Upon sternly saying something to Lee, Plum walked away from the verbal confrontation and towards the three-point line. But the 67-year-old promptly hit back with a comment of his own, jumping up from his seat and shouting something in the direction of the Aces guard.

Despite the heated altercation, Plum managed to keep a cool, level head while on the court. She finished the contest with 24 points, four assists and two rebounds on 9-of-17 shooting from the field.
Addressing the now-viral incident involving Lee, Plum conceded that she couldn’t repeat the NSFW comments that were made – but asserted that the verbal spat was all in good fun. “I can’t say exactly what was said, but I told him that he should talk louder,” she told reporters during a post-game press conference.
But it was all well and fun and really cool that he’s here, even last round was really cool. I was here. I know he’s a big sports fan, so it says a lot that he’s in the building and that he respects the game.”
