A’Ja Wilson claims unanimous 2024 WNBA

Las Vegas Aces’ center A’Ja Wilson has been named the 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), becoming the first unanimous MVP winner since Cynthia Cooper of the Houston Comets in 1997. Wilson received all 67 first-place votes, accumulating a total of 670 points to secure the prestigious award.

This marks Wilson’s third career MVP award, following her wins in 2020 and 2022. She now joins an elite group of WNBA legends, including Lisa Leslie, Lauren Jackson, and Sheryl Swoopes, as the only players in league history to have earned three MVP titles.

Wilson had an outstanding season, playing 38 games and averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.58 blocks, and 1.79 steals per game in 34.4 minutes of play. She led the WNBA in points and blocks while achieving career-highs in five major statistical categories. Wilson finished second in rebounds, fifth in steals, and fourth in minutes played.

Behind Wilson in the MVP standings were Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx with 467 points and Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty with 295 points. Rookie sensation Caitlin Clark from the Indiana Fever finished fourth, earning 130 points after a record-breaking debut season.

Wilson’s unanimous MVP win highlights her dominance in the league and solidifies her place among the greatest players in WNBA history.
