Ons Jabeur is rightfully one of the more popular players on the WTA tour. She is open and honest about everything. When she gives her opinion on matters, she does so after reviewing the facts. She is smart and funny and she comes across as a very nice person.
This is one reason that many tennis fans want her to do well. Though she has lost three Grand Slam finals, we all ached for her when she failed to win the 2023 Wimbledon final when she was the heavy favorite entering the match against Marketa Vondrousova. No offense to Vondrousova, but Jabeur was the one most rooted for.
2024 has been Jabeur’s worst year in quite some time, however. She reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and the Madrid Masters, but in every other major and Masters 1000 event, she failed to make it past the third round. She has not won any event this year and has a record of just 16-14. She has fallen to No. 22 on WTA tour.
Ons Jabeur makes announcement to end her 2024 season
Besides not being in peak form, she has also been dealing with a shoulder injury. Because of this, Jabeur announced on Monday that she won’t be playing the rest of the year and hopes to get healthy enough to come back by the Australian Open in January. She will spend the rest of the year devoting herself to the charity work she is associated with.
One could wonder what 2025 will hold for Jabeur because she is 30 years old and that is around the time when many players begin to no longer be a threat to be ranked in the top ten. This is especially true for a player dealing with an injury to a joint, such as Jabeur’s shoulder.
There is little doubt that many tennis fans hope she returns healthy and happy early in 2025 and makes another run at a major title. As a person, she deserves that kind of success. As fans, we want her to get there.
