Belinda Bencic has announced her return to competing on the courts with the world’s best tennis players after recently giving birth to a daughter. The Swiss player wants to play in the Billie Jean King Cup in November. “My goal is still to win the Grand Slam,” Iga Świątek’s rival told Swiss radio station SRF.
Bencic announced the happy news of the birth of her first child in April of this year. The Swiss woman gave birth to a daughter, whom she named Bella. “We are very happy and can’t imagine life without her anymore,” the Tokyo Olympic champion said on SRF about the new chapter in her life.
The tennis player, however, does not intend to spend too much time on maternity leave. As she revealed, she wants to return to competing with the best tennis players in the world soon. “I’m 27, I feel good, I still have a few good years on tour ahead of me. I’m very happy with how we’re doing it,” she said.
Świątek’s rival announces return to play. “My body feels good”
According to information provided by Bencic, she plans to return to competition during the Billie Jean King Cup in November. Iga Świątek’s rival, however, emphasized that she still needs to improve her fitness. “I’m still breastfeeding completely. You have to take that into account. But my body feels good,” said the Swiss.
The Tokyo Olympic champion did not hide her goals for the coming months. “My goal is still to win the Grand Slam,” she said, laughing. Bencic last appeared on the court on September 12, 2023. That was when she lost to Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnowicz at a tournament in San Diego.
The Billie Jean King Cup final tournament will be played from November 13-20 in Malaga. It is already known that Iga Świątek will not be in the Polish team. The WTA ranking leader will defend her title at the WTA Finals in Riyadh a few days earlier.
